Simple Rules for Internet Security

Keeping security in perspective is key, try to imagine your computer as your home or your car to give you an idea of what to look for.

  • Lock your doors with strong locks: Using complex but easy to remember passwords for your accounts and log-ins is quick and effective!
  • Set your alarms: Set up security points like anti-virus, anti-spy-ware, and/or pop-up blockers.
  • Screen doors keep bugs out: You are your own barometer for junk, so don’t trust anyone. Open emails and visit sites that you trust; if it looks questionable, it is!
  • Obey posted limits: Like driving, take caution when your computer or specific sites tell you that you’re leaving a trusted zone.
  • Use separate keys: Your house, safety deposit box, and car keys are all different so make your passwords and log-ins different! Plus, while it’s expensive to change those locks, its free to change your passwords so do it!

Security for your computer is quick and simple, so take these steps and use them to keep you, your identity, accounts, and your future safe.
