Sales Gain Steam in September, But Time-to-Sell Increases

Compared to the same month in 2008, overall U.S. brokerage sales continued to improve in September 2009, with unit sales ahead 10 percent and valuation lagging by 11 percent. For the first time in 2009, sailboat unit sales exceeded their ’08 numbers. Here’s a link to my story in the just-published Soundings Trade Only, which states that unit sales were up 10 percent overall and valuation was down 11 percent for the month, year over year. Unit sales were ahead in all size ranges except boats over 55 feet. We also looked at the time boats in September had been on the market, and on an average basis, this number has increased to close to 300 days. This is according to aggregated data reported to SoldBoats.com by YachtWorld.com members.
