Honeypot deployed to reduce spam

Today, your BoatWizard traffic reporter shows you all the emails you receive from visitors to YachtWorld. Some of those will be identified as spam, when we detect unusual behaviour from the buyer.

As the amount of spam has continued to increase across the whole of the internet, so YachtWorld has had to take increasingly forceful measures to prevent you from receiving it. Most marine portals do this by forcing the user to click a button, or answer a simple question. This slows down the buying process, and can prevent the potential buyer from sending his enquiry in the first place. As such, we have deployed a new spam filter this week called a HONEYPOT, following a detailed testing program. Behind-the-scenes, this system is now automatically collecting spam leads generated by machines and robots, so that you do not see them in BoatWizard. For the visitor, there is no difference to the website and no additional buttons for them to click before their enquiry is sent.

The new HONEYPOT has already reduced the amount of spam delivered to BoatWizard by over 75%, so we will continue to monitor this over the coming weeks to ensure it remains successful.
